What's Inside?

People volunteer for all kinds of reasons. Take the time to learn who your volunteers are and what their motiviations are for getting involved at your oganization.

  • As an act of gratitude
  • Because of a desire to make a difference
  • Because they feel they lack ‘purpose’ elsewhere

Volunteers want to be part of something bigger than themselves.

You’ll have to tell them your story – if you don’t have one, go get one. Then, explain how they can become part of that story.

This may seem pretty straightforward, but you’d be amazed at how many volunteer coordinators miss the mark on this.

You have to not only tell your story, but make your volunteers a vital part of it.

Volunteers need to know how much you value their work.

Learn several strategies that have worked well for our volunteer coordinators.

We can’t tell you how many times we’ve tried volunteering with an organization only to see communication fall through the cracks. We call, email, fax, drop by - but none of this seems to get through.

The reason is almost always the same - the nonprofit we’re trying to help is simply not organized enough in their volunteer efforts to proactively engage with volunteers. Don’t let this happen to you!
